Behavior to Avoid During Baseball Season

Posted .

Are you a baseball player? If so, your season is most likely just starting. As you swing the bat, catch balls and do other baseball-related things, it’s best to care for your smile. This is important because if you don’t keep your teeth and gums in mind, they can pay the consequences. In fact, there are certain habits and behaviors that should be avoided during baseball season if you want a top-notch smile:

-Drinking sports drinks: Sports drinks are loaded with sugar, which means they promote cavities when you drink them. It’s best to drink water instead. But if you have to drink a sports drink, chase it with water, rinse your mouth or clean your smile afterward.

-Using tobacco: Tobacco is an enemy to the smile and oral health. It promotes major dental and health problems. So, it’s best to avoid tobacco use altogether. If you need help doing so, you can contact our office for tips.

-Chewing tooth-harming products: Shelled sunflower seeds and sugary gum can both harm your teeth. This is because when you crack the seeds, it can fracture the tooth enamel, causing tooth cracks and breaks. When you chew sugar gum, it can promote the development of cavities. You should chew shell-less seeds or sugar-free gum while you play.
