Is Your Smile Ready for the Upcoming Holiday Celebrations?

Posted .

We are knee deep in October which has officially kicked off the seasonal festivities beginning with Halloween. But did you know that October is also National Dental Hygiene Month? Along with National Dental Hygiene month comes their message of Do The Daily 4. This message is designed to help and your loved ones prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

Dr. Jeff Davidson and our Mountain Peak Dental team in Hamilton, Montana encourage you to practice these daily habits so that your teeth and gums will emerge from the holidays with your healthy smile intact.

Doing The Daily 4

#1 Brushing your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes each time lessens plaque to help prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

#2 Flossing in between your teeth and gums once a day–using dental floss or interdental brushes–to remove food particles and plaque in those places where your toothbrush can’t clean effectively.

#3 Rinsing with an ADA approved anti-microbial mouthwash once a day to freshen breath and prevent gum disease.

#4 Chewing sugarless gum to “clean” your teeth for those times you can’t brush after eating and drinking. Chewing stimulates saliva production which neutralizes plaque acids, remineralizes enamel, and washes away food particles.

So go ahead and celebrate the holidays, but take the time to protect the smile you have worked so diligently to achieve. Don’t forget to keep any professional dental cleanings scheduled before the end of the year, and you should be good to go!
